Artist Statement

Ellie Chung investigates the abstract and intuitive relationship between mental and physical emotional phenomena in her pieces. Chung utilizes personal and anecdotal experiences of emotions to guide her process, creating a conversation between artist and viewer to explore each person’s unique experience with their emotions.

Panic is her digital composition, a fluid and everchanging depiction of the explosion of anxiety that erupts at any given moment. The blast from the head represents the buzz in the brain, the expulsion of debilitating thoughts that threaten to blow the mind apart. The visual distortion effects in the explosion convey the constant fluidity of thought compared to rigidity of the body, as thoughts race faster than the body has time to react.
